Lincoln-The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $1,959,564 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for nine owner-occupied rehab housing projects in southeast, northeast and southwest Nebraska.
Rehabilitation activities funded through this program also often include the repair or replacement of windows, doors and siding; roof repair or replacement; water heater, furnace, and AC replacement; installation of storm windows and insulation; repairs to walls, ceilings and floors; and accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities.
All homes that are to be rehabilitated are typically owned by people earning at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income: The projects to be funded by this grant include:
•The City of Ashland has received $256,992 to help rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes in Ashland. The program will provide assistance to overcome "deferred maintenance" in homes. For information contact Jessica Quady at 402-944-3387, or firstname.lastname@example.org.

•The City of Fairbury will use its $256,992 to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes in Fairbury. Following completion of the "Housing Market Study with Strategies for Affordable Housing" in May 2009, Fairbury rehabilitated nine homes of primarily single people, the elderly, and female homeowners on fixed incomes. •Perkins County is getting $256,992 in CDBG funding to rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes in the County. The County expects to leverage funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA RD) to offer up to $24,999 in rehab assistance per home. •The City of Peru has been awarded $224,868 in CDBG funds to rehabilitate seven owner-occupied homes in the City. A 2006 Housing Study indicated that 61 percent respondents indicated an owner-occupied rehabilitation program was needed. •The City of Plattsmouth is getting $224,868 in CDBG funding to rehabilitate seven owner-occupied homes. The City anticipates its continued partnership with the USDA RD Housing Services and Southeast Nebraska Community Action in providing homeowner services. •The Village of Stella will use its $128,496 CDBG funding to rehabilitate four owner-occupied homes in the Village. The Village's Comprehensive Plan indicated a need to rehabilitate up to 59 homes, and remove or replace an additional eight homes—a little more than half of all homes, about 115, in the Village.
