$2.7 Million Awarded to 8 Communities for Public Works Projects

Lincoln- Nebraska Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy today awarded eight Nebraska communities with more than $2.7 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to pursue projects in the Public Works and Water/Wastewater categories.

"I am pleased to award these communities funding for infrastructure improvements," said Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy. "Keeping community infrastructure updated is crucial for our citizens and our business development efforts."

Public works funding went to:

Loup City- $350,000 to lay concrete over five blocks of existing asphalt streets, and install integral curbing and gutters. The City will finance an additional $170,100 through general obligation bonds. Contact Loup City Mayor Alicia Toczek at 308-745-0222 or atoczek@kdsi.net.

Sidney- $350,000 to replace approximately four blocks of streets, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks along 17th Street, between Elm and Forrest streets in north Sidney. South Sioux City- $337,000 for street and water improvements for West 14th and 15th streets, from 5th Avenue to its termination point and the portion of 6th Avenue that connects 14th and 15th streets. Taylor- $325,322 to hard surface 12 blocks of streets with asphalt pavement, integral curbing, and install three ramps meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act specifications. Walthill- $350,000 to replace the current fire station, built about 70 years ago, with a new facility located in the community's business district. The Walthill Fire Department responds to approximately 70 fire calls, and Emergency Medical Technicians respond to approximately 100 rescue calls yearly. Water/wastewater funding went to:

Crawford- $350,000 to replace the wastewater treatment plant that has been in service since the 1930's. An additional $2,761,937 from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality's (NDEQ) Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund will complete the project. Contact Terrence G. Haigler- $350,000 to address water quality source issues by relining a well, make distribution improvements, and install Point-of-Use components in every household in the Village. North Loup- $350,000 to construct a new water storage facility, replace aging distribution mains throughout the system, and improve fire hydrants and gate valves that connect to existing mains. Grants are administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) from the state's annual allocation of CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing And Urban Development.
