Nebraska corn and soybean harvests are still well ahead of schedule but winter wheat growth has begun to fall behind.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its weekly crop report that the statewide corn harvest is 80 percent complete. This puts it one month ahead of the average harvest.
The soybean harvest nearly 86 percent complete and about three weeks ahead.
In contrast, winter wheat is nearly 96 percent done but only about half of the crop has emerged, putting it about two weeks behind the average schedule.
Meanwhile, Kansas officials are reporting that 81 percent of the winter wheat is now seeded and 44 percent of that crop has emerged. Ten percent of the crop that has emerged has already been rated poor to very poor but most is classified as fair to good.
90 percent of the Kansas corn crop has been harvested but the state is not quite as far ahead with their soybeans. Only about 25 percent of the soybean and sorghum crops have been harvested.
