When you cannot ban, you shall regulate. That's the way Minden City Council will be handling their new addition. An entertainment club will be coming soon; right off the Minden Square.
Officials will be regulating the time and operation of the business in order to look-out for the health, safety, and welfare of the Minden community.
Minden City Council is facing some challenges. The town has learned that they cannot ban the facility, but they will try to regulate whatever they can.
"With this particular situation, this location, we can't change. As with time and operation, we believe we can regulate at this point," said Thomas Lieske, city attorney for Minden.
Many have expressed that they are not necessarily fans of the night club...including prominent women in the Minden community.
"I wish that he can see from a woman's perspective how damaging, or how painful, a business like this can be for marriage and family," said Amber Taylor, co-founder of Mothers of Preschoolers.
Live entertainment such as the dancing that will be held in this facility is protected by free speech and there are no laws against it.
"Locally, with city ordinances, or city code, we have none," said Lieske.
Although the regulations may be helpful to the community, some are saying it is too late.
"I found out the morning after that it was coming and [that it] was approved. It was shocking to hear it was coming," said Taylor. "I felt like at that point there wasn't much as an individual I could do to keep it from coming. Beyond that, it feels like you're out of control because it's coming. There's nothing you can do about."
The night club plans to be open by November 1.
