High corn prices continue to hurt the ethanol industry. But while some plants suspend production, others find ways to keep going.
Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood toured Green Plains Ethanol in Central City on Thursday.
A year ago, the state's ethanol plants were at 100 percent capacity, according to the Ethanol Board.
This year, they've been producing only two-thirds of what they could.
But at this plant, the manager's proud to say they're still going strong.
Dwayne Braun said, "Central Nebraska irrigated corn we have good water supply, we grow some of the best corn in the entire world and it's a great place to make ethanol and at the end of the day we have great distillers grains for the cattle industry."
On the plus side for consumers, ethanol backers say the corn-based fuel continues to be cheaper at the pump.
