A Cozad man has been sent to prison for not registering in Nebraska as a sex offender.

Shawn Cryts, 30, was sentenced to 16 months in prison Thursday. He will also be required to serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.

Cryts was arrested in November 2011 after Kearney police received information that he was working in Kearney and that there was no record in Tennessee, where he was convicted of a sexual assault offense, or Nebraska that he had reported his change of address or employment.

Prosecutors say Cryts is required to register as a sex offender after being convicted of attempted aggravated sexual battery in July 2003 in Dyer County, Tenn.
