The City of Kearney says the tap water is safe to drink after the water's safety was called into question following samples that tested positive for coliform bacteria.
The city is reassuring its residents that subsequent testing for the bacteria came back negative.
The Environmental Protection Agency requires the city to test 30 samples of water each month. Two of those samples this month came back positive for the coliform bacteria.
Kearney Utilities Director Kirk Stocker says coliform is a common bacteria, so it's possible the test bottle was improperly handled.
