The city council candidates in Kearney are doing their last minute campaigning as the days to Election Day are dwindling.
Jonathan Nikkila was born and raised in Kearney and he works in public policy for the American Federation for Children. Nikkila currently is serving on the Kearney board of adjustment.
He involves himself with the Kearney Chamber of Commerce as well. He says his involvement in many community activities gives him the perspective to know what is right for the city.
"My campaign is about business friendly, fiscally conservative and that mean a few things-- low taxes, sensible regulation and strong public safety. I feel like I'm a unique candidate because I have a foot in the past, I grew up here in Kearney but I'm also very active in the city," said Nikkila.
He says in order to maintain growth in Kearney for the future, the city has to encourage businesses to stay and prosper in the community.
"People that invest in Kearney whether it's a small business, or a homeowner, or an employee working at a business, they are really the ones that contribute to the growth and quality of Kearney and so it's really important that they know Kearney's going to have a stable long term fiscally conservative environment for them to prosper," said Nikkila.
Nikkila says he's knocked on over 4,000 doors of over 6,000 voters and is ready to hit the ground running if elected.
