Projector problems sparked a fire that led the rose Bowl Theatre in Franklin to temporarily close. Last month fourth graders at Franklin Elementary got together and started raising money so they could help bring the theatre back to life.
With help from their teacher, they started a penny war, a competition between the high school, middle and the elementary schools to raise funds for the local theatre.
Each class would bring in spare change and fill the tubs. The class that raised the most funds received a prize. At first they only thought they would raise $100, but now they've collected more than $950.
"The kids really want it, they miss it," fourth grade teacher Vickie Johnson said. "It's the big entertainment in town."
Most of the money will be going toward chairs, painting and a new concession stand.
