Twitter could be the new option to report a crime, but it is not the only thing you will soon be able to report. Aside from using it to connect with friends, or getting up-to-the-minute news content from NTV, you will soon be able to use Twitter to tweet in your emergencies.
Officials say they are looking at ways they can open more lines of communication through social media. They will also take time to include items that came before social media including e-mail and text messaging.
Officials from Hastings PD report that this will obviously take time before it is released and discussed further in Nebraska. They will, however, continue what they have been doing, and that is picking up ideas from other agencies.
"You'll have different agencies trying different things, and one agency will find out what another agency is doing and like that idea and go with it. I think it will be a lot of feeding off of each other on how we can improve how social media is used," said Steven Murphy, sergeant of Hastings PD.
Murphy also reported that they will continue to enhance their relationship with social media. When the time comes to use Twitter to report these situations, they will be ready to embrace it with open arms.
