Hastings– Central Community College-Hastings is celebrating Veterans Day on Nov. 12 and the public is invited to attend.
The celebration begins at 10 a.m. at the Clay Hall flag post. The ceremony will include a rededication of the Naval Ammunition Depot Plant and the CCC Student Fallen Heroes memorial.
Other highlights will include videos; a display of military gear, vehicles and medals; and the singing of the national anthem by human services instructor Janice Hill.
The Veterans Day events will conclude at 3:30 p.m.
CCC established Veterans Resource Centers at its Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses after receiving a $393,993 Central to Veteran Student Success Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Post-secondary Education.
The college has been named a 2013 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine for ranking in the top 15 percent of U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to recruit and retain veterans as students.
The VRCs support veterans and active duty, reservist and National Guard members while they make the transition from the military to student life. Through the centers, they have access to student services such as campus tours, orientation sessions, tutoring, mentoring and workshops as well as information about other veteran organizations, groups and activities.
