A Hastings woman has been honored for her work in helping bring a sensitive subject to the forefront.
Saturday evening, the Hastings community came together to honor Judy Sandeen; an advocate and educator of HIV and AIDS. She's worked with Hastings College for 29 years, forming the student peer advocacy group 5-OH, and has also worked with Nebraska AIDS Project.
Sandeen says she's overwhelmed with the recognition.
"It's crazy, it's really crazy. I've just only been doing what I love and what needs to be done," said Sandeen. "And so to be honored for it is just really kind of overwhelming."
She received the "Shining Star" award from the Nebraska AIDS Project, which will be placed on Hastings College campus.
