A student pilot from North Platte has died in a crash at the Gothenburg Airport.
James Ross, 55, North Platte's director of information systems, was approaching the grass runway Sunday morning when the plane went down about 50 yards short of the runway.
Rescue workers were sent to the airport around 10:30 a.m. and found the two-seater plane flipped upside down. Ross died at the scene.
Officials say Ross was alone on the plane.
An autopsy will be performed and federal authorities are investigating the crash.
