Kearney – Community Connections and the Tri-City Storm are partnering again this holiday season to help those less fortunate by collecting non-perishable food items, paper products and toiletries as part of the Harvest to End Hunger food drive.
Harvest to End Hunger is from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Boogaarts Food Store, Grand Central Apple Market and Sun Mart Foods.
Storm Hockey players will be at each location, where they will distribute a list to shoppers that details items needed to assist the hungry and homeless in central Nebraska. Carts will be provided to collect items purchased and donated by shoppers.
Items collected will benefit clients served by Campus Kitchen, Jubilee Center, Mid-Nebraska Food Bank, The Salvation Army and The S.A.F.E. Center.
"As winter approaches, many families in our area have to make difficult choices about their finances, including choices like whether to pay the heating bill or purchase food," said Community Connections Facilitator Nikki Gausman.
"In order to assist these families, and recognize National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Nov. 11-17, we are asking for the public's assistance," said Gausman.
Other businesses and groups are encouraged to get involved in Harvest to End Hunger by seeking individual collections during the week. Donations can also be taken throughout the year to any of the agencies serving those in need.
