"Cupcakes for a Cause" is a fundraiser that will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Younes Convention Center. It is being organized by members of Countryside Christian Church and will benefit a nonprofit organization called His Kids Too-Project TLC.
"Cupcakes for a Cause" is a cupcake competition. They are looking for individuals or groups to enter cupcake creations into the competition. The community is invited to attend the event and vote on the creations with their donations. The top three creations will then be voted on a celebrity panel of judges.
In the Ukraine, special needs children are left at orphanages because of their disability. If the children are not adopted by the age of 4, they go directly to a mental institution where their needs are usually not met and they are shown very minimal care.
Project TLC is the result of three mothers (including Boston Laughrey, of Kearney, Nebraska) who have adopted special needs children from the Ukraine and their wish to return there to minister to those children who were left behind. God has placed it in these mother's hearts to raise funds to purchase basic necessities for the children and adults in these institutions in the Ukraine.
Last year over $2,000 was raised for Project TLC. This money bought a large number of diapers and new windows in the orphanage. Ukraine had one of the coldest winters in its history last year and because of the funds raised at Cupcakes for a Cause, new windows were installed a mere three days before the cold set in. This year, funds will go directly to a new roof for the orphanage.
