The Hastings Police Department wants you to buckle up!
They have been awarded funds by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to participate in the Click It or Ticket Mobilization from November 19th through the 25th. During this time additional officers will be working enforcing passenger restraint and child restraint violations within the City of Hastings.
On Tuesday, November 6th, a "pre-wave" survey was conducted near 12th Street and Baltimore Avenue. The results showed only 57% of drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
According to the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, as of October, the lack of seat belt law compliance has resulted in 55 roll over fatality crashes. Only 4 of those fatalities were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Also, all but four were either partially or fully ejected from the vehicle.
The Hastings Police Department is working for year round, voluntary compliance to get to the statewide goal of 88.2 percent of seat belt usage.
