United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on Tuesday, Tomas Hernandez, IV, of North Platte was sentenced to seven years in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine between January of 2009, and August of 2011.

Following the prison term, 25-year-old Hernandez will serve four years on supervised release.

Hernandez was found responsible for the distribution of between 50 and 200 grams of methamphetamine. Additional information proved that Hernandez was also involved in the distribution of cocaine.

In April of 2011, a confidential informant working with the CODE Task Force purchased small amounts of methamphetamine from Hernandez in North Platte on two occasions.

This case was investigated by the CODE Task Force which is made up of law enforcement agencies throughout a 22-county area in west-central and southwest Nebraska. It includes the North Platte Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Red Willow County Sheriff's Office, Frontier County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
