Give BIG, Lexington's day of giving, came to an end on Friday, and the results exceeded the expectations of many.
Numbers are locked in and over $487,000 was raised. The Lexington Community Foundation will be supporting local area non-profit organizations with the money raised. They have also received $116,000 in award money.
The top three organizations that raised the most money included Johnson Lake Trails with $114,000; the YMCA of Lexington with $26,000; and the Dawson County Children's Museum just shy of $15,000. Organizers say it is truly a blessing to see a community working together to make a difference.
"Wow. Way to go Lexington. The foundation is impressed with the community spirit of generosity, and willingness to work together and make things happen," said Jackie Berke, executive director of LCF.
All donations were matched with a relational share of $100,000. The foundation had a total of 1,177 donations.
