A local cheerleader's opportunity to perform in a nationally televised parade shows that small town dreams can become a reality.
Southern Valley School will be represented in a grand way as Nicole Forbes joins more than 400 cheerleaders and dance squad members to lead the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.
She's part of the Spirit of America squad; one of many from around the country representing their hometown schools. This accomplishment proves that rural America can proudly represent.
"Take every opportunity, because I know this was kind of a longshot opportunity for a small town Nebraska girl," said Southern Valley cheerleader Nicole Forbes. "But it's going to be so much fun and totally worth it!"
"I think it proves that you don't have to be from a big school or a big town to be able to do whatever you want to do," said Southern Valley Cheerleader coach Susan Bose. "If you want to do it there's a will and there's a way to become a part of this whole situation."
Nicole and two other cheerleaders from Holdrege and Silver Lake will help lead off the parade on Thanksgiving morning.
