Police arrested a Kearney man for allegedly running a small bomb making factory out of his home.

Daniel Sindt, 43, is charged with felony possession of a destructive device and unlawful possession of explosive materials.

According to court records, police arrived at the home in response to a report of medication theft, but soon found a small explosive and other elements needed to make more bombs like it.

Police were tipped off on Tuesday when Sindt's estranged wife went to police. She was worried that Sindt was taking her pills to make her life difficult as they went through a "messy divorce", according to court records.

She provided police with pictures and detailed descriptions of the explosives.

She told police their six-year-old twin boys were also involved in making the explosives.

According to the estranged wife, Sindt had been making and selling the improvised explosives in a large quantity.

Police have frequently received reports of explosions, but have not been able to pinpoint them. Now they believe the "extremely forceful explosions" heard in the city may have been from these homemade bombs.

Kearney Police executed a search warrant along with the Nebraska State Patrol bomb squad and Nebraska State Fire Marshal.

They tested a device found at the home, and bomb technicians found it contained ten times the level of explosives needed to meet their standard.

Records indicate Sindt posted bond and was released from jail, pending an upcoming court appearance.
