GIPD Says Goodbye to Kortum

Posted: Updated:

The new Chief of Police in Hastings is ready to start his new job, but first, Pete Kortum says goodbye to his colleagues in Grand Island.

Kortum says Grand Island has been good to his family. He's been with the GIPD for nearly 40 years.

Now he and his wife Mary have found a place in Hastings and he's started to get to know the new team, which shares the same forward-thinking view of police work.

He said, "Policing changes a lot and I think we've done an excellent job in Grand Island keeping pace with that and I see the same thing in Hastings. I'm really excited to be part of that."

The City of Grand Island held a reception for Kortum on Thursday. His first day on the job in Hastings comes Monday.
