Christmas Tree Walk Benefits Kearney Museum

Posted: Updated:

Just when you thought the elections were over, a unique fundraiser gives people the opportunity to cast their ballot; all in the name of fun.

It's the 25th annual Christmas Tree Walk at Kearney's Trails and Rails Museum. Eighteen organizations decorated their trees in hopes to better their competition by getting the most votes... and pennies.

Along with seeing all the creativity that goes into the trees, officials love how families get involved.

"I love watching, there's all multi–generations so the grandmas are all coming in with grandkids and they all have their baggies of pennies already, if not we have elves that will help transform dollars into pennies," said Trails and Rails Museum's executive director, Jennifer Murrish. "It's fun to see the kids light up and they understand Christmas and the whole meaning of it, so it's fun to watch them have an activity they can do with their grandparents."

Money from the penny wars goes directly to the Buffalo County Historical Society.

The Christmas Tree Walk continues December 8th and 9th from 1–5 p.m. at Kearney's Trails and Rails Museum and is open to the public.
