Nebraskans to File Unemployment Claims Online

Posted: Updated:

The Nebraska Department of Labor announced Friday that starting Sunday, Dec. 2, everyone who files a weekly unemployment insurance claim will have to do so online at dol.nebraska.gov.

Online filing is replacing an automated telephone system, and will allow claimants to complete all of the most important steps to receiving benefits in one location.

"This is a huge leap forward for the NDOL and our mission to use technology to make the lives of Nebraskans easier," said Director of Economic Development and Commissioner of Labor Catherine Lang. "The NDOL website is now a one-stop shop where claimants can utilize various tools to help them become reemployed."

The tools included are an online work search log, which is required to receive benefits, and the NDOL's job site, NEworks.nebraska.gov, where claimants register for work and post their resumes.

Employers can also benefit by completing unemployment tax and benefit functions online through the NDOL website by clicking on UI Connect.

Once the initial benefit claim is filed, claimants must continue to file for benefits for every week they are unemployed or their hours are reduced.

Those without a personal computer are able to file their weekly claims at a local library or one of the 15 NDOL locations throughout the state. For a list of career centers, visit dol.nebraska.gov.
