Cabin Arrives At Stuhr Museum

Posted: Updated:

An important piece of Grand Island's history arrived at it's new home Wednesday morning.

The Stuhr Family Cabin made a nearly five mile journey from the public safety center to its new home at the Stuhr Museum.

It took nearly a day and a half to get there, but the museum is happy with their new display.

"We've been talking about it as an early Christmas present around the museum," Joe Black, executive director of Stuhr Museum said. "As soon as it's set down and we get the foundation finished up, we'll start working on the outside and get people in and using it as soon as we can."

It took two years for the historical society and the museum to raise funds to relocate and rehabilitate the house.

This new addition will be located in railroad town, which is part of the living history complex.
