A 6-year-old boy who inspired many passed away on December 2, and was laid to rest on Sunday. Isaiah Joseph Casillas was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in March.
"He lived life to the fullest," said step-mother to Isaiah Emily Casillas. He was born June 9, 2006 in North Platte, Neb. Isaiah was a first grade student at McCook Elementary School. His favorite subjects were reading and math. Isaiah loved hugs and kisses.
"We would just watch him and we were like he's going to fight it, he's going to get through this...that's just the disappointing part that he had to get that rare type of cancer," said Emily.
Isaiah loved Husker football and spent time with some of the players. He was also a recipient of a Make-a-Wish trip to Disney World in Florida.
"When I met with Keith Zimmer and the athletic director he touched our hearts and touched everyone of us," said Patrick Casillas, Isaiah's father.
"Isaiah said to me I know that I am sick and that I will get to see my grandfather in heaven. He was calm, confident, mature beyond his years and above all Isaiah was in peace," said Keith Zimmer with the Nebraska athletic department.
The family will have a private burial for Isaiah at a later date.
