The Destination Halifax Ambassador Program inducts a group of ten local professionals in recognition of those who have made a contribution to Halifax meetings, conferences and conventions.

Yesterday, a diverse group of ten local professionals - and one iconic Halifax character - were inducted into Destination Halifax’s Ambassador Program and honoured for the role they played in hosting a major Halifax event in 2012.
Representing a wide range of industries and professions, the Ambassadors share a common desire to host a successful Halifax event that will bring their colleagues together while showcasing the city. By going above and beyond what’s expected of their position, the collective efforts of the Ambassadors resulted in thousands of delegates from Canada and around the world converging in Halifax in 2012, thereby stimulating considerable economic and community growth.
“These Ambassadors championed Halifax as an event destination, resulting in upwards of 2500 delegates from across Canada and around the world attending conferences in our city this year,” said Patricia Lyall, Destination Halifax President & CEO.
In addition to the Ambassador honorees, the Spirit of Halifax award is given to an individual whose outstanding long-term efforts in launching or ensuring the success of a major Halifax meeting, event or conference has made a significant impact on the promotion of the Halifax region and the economic growth of its tourism sector.
The recipient of this year’s Spirit of Halifax award is a face that most Nova Scotians will recognize: Myles, the mascot for the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013, the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon is the largest marathon weekend east of Ottawa with almost 14,000 runners and walkers expected to participate in the next event. Each year the Scotiabank Bluenose Marathon achieves its goal of delivering an inclusive Halifax event for people of all abilities that promotes healthy living and active lifestyles.
“In the 10 years since it began, the Scotiabank Bluenose Marathon has become so much more than a race, resulting in over $1.5 million being raised for close to 100 local charities. The term “Spirit of Halifax” is synonymous with the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon, an event that Halifax can be truly proud to call its own,” said Lyall.
Since its inception in 1983, the Ambassador Program has honoured 250 people who share a passion for promoting Halifax conference and meeting facilities and highlighting the benefits of hosting a Halifax event. The Program is an alliance of individuals and organizations who achieve economic growth for the Halifax Regional Municipality through the promotion of Halifax as a premier meetings and conventions destination.
This month, the Ambassador Program website was re-launched as part of the Destination Halifax website. Visitors can now go to http://www.destinationhalifax.com/halifax-ambassadors to learn more about each Ambassador and the program’s recognition categories.
