Making Homes for the Holidays

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday, December 11th, 3pm, 2012.
This Christmas season, Slumberland Furniture and Exchange Bank are once again working to
provide families in need with new beds through Slumberland's annual Making Homes for the Holiday's program. Slumberland Furniture and Exchange Bank will donate approximately 60 frames, mattress and box spring sets to children and families currently sleeping on the floor.

"This year we are working directly with counselors and social workers in the Kearney school
system and surrounding areas. We found this to be a great source to find children and families in need." Gayle Bonnes said.

At 3:00 pm, on the afternoon of the event, employees will stack the beds and serve Hors d'oeuvres for the volunteers. Mayor Stan Clouse along with owners Jason and Gayle Bonnes and Brandon and Alycia Packer and Josh Peisiger store manager will kick off the event. Stan Parker from My Bridge Radio will lead the store and volunteers in prayer. After prayer we will start loading the trucks and take the mattress sets out to the families in need.

The Tri-City Storm Hockey team will be providing the muscle power to load and deliver the beds. We have donations of quilts from the Grand Island Quilting Club provided for the children. "It is our sincere hope that each child receiving a bed knows this is a gift from God and he loves them with all his heart. Nothing would make us happier to know we've helped in some tiny way to bring people closer to Christ." Gayle Bonnes said.

This is Slumberland's 15th year participating in Making Homes for the Holidays. Slumberland has donated 595 sets throughout the tri-city area. Slumberland is a family owned business that supports activities and organizations that strengthen families and provide assistance to children and families in need. Slumberland's program is based on the belief that a home isn't a home without a bed.

We have a need for volunteers that can help with their truck to deliver mattress sets to the families throughout the tri-city area. If you would like to participate in the loading and delivery of mattress sets Tuesday December 11th at 3pm please contact Gayle Bonnes at 308-381-4829 or Thank you for your time and support for this great cause.
