Nebraska State Patrol Receives Grant to Aid in Holiday Enforcement Efforts

Posted: Updated:

The Nebraska State Patrol received nearly $28,000 in grant money for the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to help pay for extra holiday enforcement efforts.

Starting Friday, Dec. 14 and running through Jan. 1 the NSP will be putting extra focus on drunk drivers with the "You Drink & Drive You Lose" campaign.

"Our message is really very simple," said Colonel David Sankey, NSP superintendent. "We want you, to be home for the holidays. Help us keep your travels safe by never driving impaired. That extra holiday cheer isn't worth the heartache of a collision or the possibility of being arrested."

The grant money will be used to help pay overtime hours for troopers and communications specialists over the special enforcement period.

NSP wants to remind drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts, don't drive while impaired or distracted, obey the speed limit and never drive faster than conditions allow.

Travelers can keep up to date on the latest weather and road conditions by utilizing the Nebraska Advanced Traveler Information System website at or by dialing 511 from any cellular phone or landline.

To report a reckless or impaired driver, or if you are in need of non-emergency roadside assistance call the NSP Highway Helpline when safe to do so, at (star) *55 from any cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
