Ex-Student Goes to Court for Hacking into NU Database - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

A former student of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln had his first court appearance last week.

Daniel Stratman, 22, faces charges for allegedly hacking into the university's database, which contained information about more that 650,000 students, alumni and employees.

Prosecutors say Stratman, who was studying computer science and math, accessed a protected computer without permission. The database that was broken into held records from all of the University of Nebraska campuses and the Nebraska State College System.

Officials don't believe any personal information from the database was downloaded.

Stratman faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if he is convicted.
