Several cities across Nebraska will be receiving a share of $94,500 from the Community Development Block Grant to help revitalize their communities.
The
cities of Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Norfolk and North
Platte submitted applications in November to further
evaluate the communities' housing and public works activities benefiting low-
and moderate-income persons in community neighborhoods.
The evaluated activities began in 2009 with the initial Comprehensive Needs Assessment and Revitalization Strategy. This new evaluation extends the participation in the program for each city for the next three years.
The
funding, based on what each community needed to update and evaluate its 2009
community revitalization strategy, will be allocated as follows (with each city
making a 25 percent total project matching contribution):
- Columbus—$12,000
- Fremont—$12,000
- Grand
Island—$15,000
- Hastings--$15,000
- Kearney—$15,000
- Norfolk—$10,500
- North
Platte—$15,000
Grants are administered by the
Nebraska Department of Economic Development from the state's annual allocation
of CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
