With the new year brings the competition for families who are expecting a baby to be the first of the year.
For us at NTV that baby hits close to home because the first baby born at Good Samaritan Hospital is our own news director Matt Weesner's daughter.
Ellie Grace Weesner came into the world at 7:36 a.m. on New Years morning.
"Never in our lives did we imagine sitting here on New Years Eve counting down getting ready to have a baby," said mother of Ellie, Ashley Weesner.
"It's exciting and was surprising," said Matt Weesner.
Surprising because the they thought little Ellie would come days ago but she had her own plans.
"Never in my life would I think she was coming late, let alone be the New Year's baby," said Matt.
Getting this honor was a compete shock for the Weesner family.
"I figured, well there has to be a couple other women in labor and ahead of me," said Ashley.
Ellie Weesner weighed in at 8 pounds 13 ounces.
From all of us at NTV we wish them the best in 2013 and congratulations!
