Ice Fishing 101 by Randy Wilson

'Tis the season!! Safe ice has formed on many of the area lakes, but it is early in the season so proceed with caution.  You will need either a spud bar or hand ice auger to get a hole in the ice.  If you plan on going many times you may want to invest in a power auger which are available in gas, electric or propane.  An eight inch hole is probably fine for most.

There are a lot of different lures available for ice fishing.  Start out with a variety of different colors and sizes and grab a tub of wax worms to enjoy this winter sport. There are a lot of rods and reels available at a relatively low cost. You may want to use a flasher or sonar but it is not something you have to be successful.  Good fishing.
