Grand Island to Have Life-Flight Service

Posted: Updated:

LifeTeam, a helicopter air ambulance service, will begin operating in Grand Island Friday, Jan. 4 for those in need of quick medical transport.

The helicopter will provide a local helicopter to transport critically ill or injured patients in the central Nebraska region. The flight crews will be able to safely and quickly transport patients that need advanced care from a specialized center or team.

LifeTeam has been working with authorities at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport to develop the service which will be based out of the airport.

LifeTeam's focus is to work cooperatively with EMS agencies and area hospitals to enhance and expedite patient care in rural communities when needed. "The patient focus is present in every part of safely transporting patients to specialty care and we looks forward to bringing this resource to the region," said Martin Sellberg, M.D. with LifeTeam.

The Bell 206 Longranger helicopter will be based at the airport in Grand Island and will have crew quarters next to the hangar, allowing crews to be ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Grand Island base will also work closely with LifeTeam's Beech King Air based in McCook. The King Air will be able to make transports from the central Nebraska region if the helicopter is already in use or if weather conditions dictate.
