A Gering teen was killed Sunday morning after driving her car in front of a moving train.
Mikal Orozco, 17, was driving east of Gering around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when she drove around lowered crossing arms at the 21st Avenue railroad crossing, according to Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Lt. Rick Spencer.
The on-coming train struck the passenger side of the car and sent Orozco to the Regional West Medical Center where she later died.
The crossing was closed until around 5 a.m. Sunday while authorities investigated the accident.
