Kidnapping Trial Moved from GI to Lincoln

Posted: Updated:

In the interest of justice, a judge has agreed to move a high profile trial from Grand Island to Lincoln.

Abraham Richardson will now stand trial the last week of April.

Since the alleged crime involves a young girl taken from her apartment and sexually assaulted, many in the Grand Island area have strong feelings about the case and what outcome they would like to see.

Richardson's defense attorney said the trial needed to be moved in the interest of fairness for the process.

Public Defender Gerard Piccolo wrote, "Pretrial publicity and knowledge of prospective jurors about this case makes it difficult to select a jury from Hall County."

The Hall County Attorney agreed, and so did Judge James Livingston. He set the trial for five days, beginning April 29 in Lancaster County District Court.

It stems from an incident at the Riverbend Apartments in October 2011. Meanwhile, Richardson was convicted and sentenced on federal charges related to child pornography.

He will spend 20 years in federal prison for that crime.

In that case, an FBI agent found images of young children were being exchanged on a photo-sharing site. They connected it to Richardson.
