Pet photos in exchange for dog food?
That's right, this month a local business is partnering up with the Kearney Area Animal Shelter by helping them feed the many animals they care for.
Baer Photography is on its second year with this fundraiser and has some big goals. Last year they received 2,600 pounds of food and this year they hope to bring in 4,000 pounds.
The KAAS goes through about 100 bags of food every month and they rely on donations to feed all their pets, like Marlin who was treated to a photo-shoot Tuesday afternoon.
"He was actually a stray, just found running around Kearney, brought in and nobody reclaimed him," said KAAS employee Krystal Nunnemkamp.
"He became ours and we just put him up for adoption. Loves people, loves riding in a car, very lovable dog," she said.
Marlin has been in the shelter for a month and a half and is looking for a good home.
Brian Baer owns Baer Photography and is a Kearney native. He has been in business for 17 years and holds this cause especially close to his heart..
"We have a black lab. We got her at the KAAS so we really love animals and like to support organizations that do such nice good work for our community," said Baer.
Getting the photo is not always easy when it comes to pets but with patience and a few treats Baer can get the right shot. They are a picture perfect addition to any family.
To participate just bring in a large bag of Science Diet food or a $40 donation to your scheduled appointment throughout the month of January and Baer will give you a free pet portrait or a family portrait that includes your furriest family member.
The KAAS is always looking for donations ranging from blankets, to food and money and volunteers. You can contact them at kearneyhumane.com or call (308) 237-PETS.
