Auto Parts Store Damaged in Fire

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters battled sub-zero wind chills Monday morning, as a Grand Island auto parts store suffered heat damage from a fire.

Firefighters were called to Owl Auto Parts on East Fourth Street before 9 a.m. Monday morning.

Fire Division Chief Tim Hiemer told NTV they were able to contain the fire to the back of the shop.

Witnesses praised firefighters for their quick response, however, fire officials say there is extensive heat damage in the back of the building.

Owl Auto Parts has been in business for decades in Grand Island, and is currently owned by a Cozad business, according to its website.

The extent of the damage is not yet known. The cause is also under investigation.

The wind chill at the time was one degree below zero according to the National Weather Service.
