U.S. Senator Deb Fischer has recently met with some of Nebraska's soldiers on an official trip to Afghanistan and Israel that included Senate
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted
Cruz (R-Texas), and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).
Members
of the congressional delegation met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu in Jerusalem to discuss political and security challenges facing the
Middle East. In Afghanistan, the senators met with Afghan political leaders,
U.S. military personnel, and top military commanders including Major General
Larry Nicholson and General John Allen, Commander of the International Security
Assistance Force.
It was while
in Afghanistan that Fischer also met with Nebraskans who are currently deployed there. Fischer said, "I
was honored to have the opportunity to meet our deployed Nebraska
service-members, shake their hands, look them in the eyes, and thank them – on
behalf of all Nebraskans – for their hard work and sacrifice."
Fischer and her colleagues will return to the United States on Tuesday.
