Update: Man Involved in Jan. Pursuit Waives Prelim. Hearing

Posted: Updated:

A 24-year-old involved in a January pursuit has waived his preliminary hearing and is now bound to district court.

Back in mid-January officers from the North Platte Police Department began pursuit of a 1996 Honda Accord, driven by Ryan Gabel, traveling northbound on Ash Street after the vehicle refused to stop.

Police say, the fleeing vehicle's speeds quickly reached approximately 60 mph. Officers decided to end their pursuit at that time due to unsafe driving conditions in the residential area.  Minutes later the fleeing Honda was witnessed losing control and collided with at least one other vehicle near W. A Street and Ash.

Police say the driver then fled the scene and headed west between W. 1st and 2nd Streets while the sole passenger in the vehicle was temporarily detained and later released, uninjured by the crash.

Soon after fleeing the scene, officers located Gabel near Washington Elementary. He was detained and questioned regarding the pursuit and accident and later placed under arrest for multiple charges, including DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Gabel was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center and held on $100,000 bond.
