
In a sauce pan on med-high heat melt a quarter stick of butter, add a cup of heavy cream and half cup of cream cheese, whisk until cream cheese is incorporated.
Mix in desired cheeses (sharp cheddar, smoked Gouda, smoked provolone, Quattro formaggio - 1/2 cup of each) - whisk, when cheese is nearly melted add a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of turmeric, salt and pepper to taste, add a splash of white wine or sherry for sweetness.
Whisk until smooth and pour over cooked elbow noodles (1 lb) - mix well, place into casserole dish , top with more of selected cheeses and herbed Panko crumbs (Italian bread crumbs work as well) - bake in 400 degree oven until a golden brown crust forms.
(About 7 minutes) - add bacon, shrimp,chicken or yesterday's leftovers for a new spin on a comfort food classic.
