Preliminary Report Released in Fatal Plane Crash Near Maxwell

A preliminary report has been filed regarding the plane crash that occurred near Maxwell on Jan. 11.

The plane was headed from North Platte to York when it went down not long after takeoff killing all four people on the plane.

The report indicates that the pilot sent out a "mayday" call mere minutes after takeoff. A simultaneous loss of radio and radar contact was reported by a radar controller at the Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center.

Data from the LBF automated weather observation station used in the report showed wind gusting over 23 miles per hour, with visibility at 3 miles, and light freezing rain and mist present at the time contact was lost.

The report only contains information from NTSB's preliminary investigation. A final report will be completed at a later date.
