The 9th Judicial District -- which includes Buffalo and Hall counties -- has selected a new presiding judge to oversee the delivery of county court services.
Judge Arthur Wetzel has been named for the position. The Nebraska Supreme Court approved the nomination, following submissions for the position by Wetzel's fellow county court judges.
Besides overseeing county court services, Wetzel will also serve as a liaison between other agencies the courts in his district.
Presiding judges also must oversee personnel matters for the district and provide county courts in the area with direction in matters of local district policy.
Wetzel practiced law for 27 years in Nebraska before being appointed to the county court bench in 2011. He has served as Deputy Adams County Attorney and is a former president of the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorneys Association.
