Bill Looks to Allow Bars to Accept Out-of-State IDs - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

A bill introduced by Lincoln Sen. Colby Coash would allow bars and liquor stores in Nebraska to accept out-of-state identification cards as a valid form of ID.

Lawmakers took LB173 to a vote Friday and voted 30-0 in favor of advancing the measure. The bill will have to face two more votes before it can go to Gov. Heineman.

The law currently allows valid driver's or operator's licenses, a Nebraska state identification card, a military identification card, an alien registration card or a passport to be accepted for an alcohol purchase. The law's current wording doesn't allow for out-of-state identification cards.
