UNK Holds Workshop to Connect Employers with Possible Interns

Posted: Updated:

UNK- The College of Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will host the second annual Employer Internship Workshop Wednesday, Feb 20, on the campus.

The  workshop is free and will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Ockinga Conference Room on the UNK West Campus.

"The workshop will teach businesses and agencies how to set up internships, so that both the business and student will benefit," said Janice Woods, UNK director of Business Internships & Experiential Learning for the UNK College of Business and Technology.

"Internships should be mutually beneficial to both students and employers," Woods said. "We are here to help employers create high quality experiences that give students an opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge into a professional experience while at the same time allowing employers to test-drive talent, and take advantage of fresh minds and specialized skill sets."

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, about 70 percent of interns will be offered full-time jobs from the company they interned for once the students graduate. NACE also reported that 93 percent of employers responding to their survey plan to hire college students as interns.

"The workshop is not just for local businesses," Woods said. "It is open to any employer who wants college student interns."

According to Woods, there have been several requests from Kearney area businesses and others across the state who are looking for business and technology students and numerous internships that are currently available.

Businesses interested in attending the workshop can register with Joni Weed of UNK Career Services. The workshop is primarily for employers seeking students in the business and technology field. Businesses can register to attend by calling (308) 865-8501 or by sending an e-mail to weedj@unk.edu.
