State Treasurer Stenberg Considering Run for Governor
Treasurer Don Stenberg
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg says he's pondering a run for governor.
Stenberg said Thursday that it's "unlikely, but possible" that he'll jump into the 2014 race.
says he previously had planned to seek re-election as state treasurer,
but is now considering a run for governor in the wake of Lt. Gov. Rick
Sheehy had declared that he was running, but
resigned from office in the wake of an Omaha World-Herald investigation
that found he had placed thousands of calls to women on his
state-issued cell phone.
Stenberg, a former attorney general and
legal counsel to Gov. Charles Thone, has mounted four unsuccessful
campaigns for U.S. Senate since 1996.
He says that if he chooses not to for governor, he'll likely seek re-election as state treasurer.
