Secretary of State John Kerry promises a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline "in the near term."
In his first comments about the controversial pipeline since taking office last week, Kerry said he is waiting for the results of a review, started by his predecessor Hillary Clinton, and hopes to make a decision soon.
The State Department has jurisdiction over the $7-billion pipeline because it crosses an international border.
