Heartland Pet Connection hosted its biggest fundraiser of the year on Saturday. The 5th Annual Chocolate A'Fur fundraising event at the Adams County Fairgrounds brought together sponsors, companies and attendees in Adams County and the surrounding areas.
Funds and attendees have doubled since its first fundraising event. The evening kicked off at 5:30 p.m. with microbrew tasting, food and entertainment.
Lynn Josnoch, the executive director of the Heartland Pet Connection said, "In one year we'll have around 1,200 animals -- its quite a big number for the size of town we have and the area that we serve. Of course we'd like that to go smaller, that people spay and neuter their pets."
Josnoch added, "It [the fundraiser] means a lot -- all the proceeds go back to the shelter, veterinary care, food, heating, utilities and more."
In 2012 the fundraiser brought in $25,000 and the group hoped this year would bring about $35,000.
