Mediation Center Works to Resolve Issues for Nebraska Consumers

Posted: Updated:

The Consumer Protection Division mediation center has reported saving Nebraskans more than $1.1 million in 2012 for those involved in business complaints.

The center opened 3,500 complaints and took over 8,000 calls. The top five complaints were in areas of credit and financial services (banking-related complaints, mortgage issues); scams (phishing scams, fake letters and check); professional services (debt collection, memberships); personal and household products (retail and online sales); and motor vehicle sales.

"Nebraskans work hard for their money and deserve to be treated fairly," said Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning. "When conflicts arise between Nebraska consumers and businesses, our mediation center works to resolve the issue and recover lost funds."

The mediation center is operated by the Attorney General's office along with highly-trained volunteers that work to resolve issues for consumers across Nebraska. Staff at the mediation center are also able to provide timely information on scams that affect Nebraskans.

For more information or to file a complaint, call the Attorney General's Office Consumer Hotline at 1-800-727-6432 or visit www.ago.ne.gov.
