FFA Growing Young Leaders

Food, fuel, and fiber -- those who meet our needs are getting a head start through FFA.

This is National FFA Week.

The organization has more than a half–million members nationwide.

For a dozen area schools, Monday was also contest time.

They call it a Career Development Event, because it's more than identifying livestock.

It's about welding, landscaping, business and science.

Ravenna FFA Advisor Heath Ahrens said, "Just amount of technology and science – it's changed, but it hasn't. It's still focused on an ag setting but really is something in it for each and every one of the students that come through to expand their knowledge base."

Most schools that have agricultural education include advanced scientific studies, preparing kids not just for the farm, but they say for a variety of ag–related careers.

Monday's events were held at Central Community College in Grand Island.
