Gov. Heineman Considering Run for Senate Seat

Posted: Updated:

Governor Dave Heineman has announced that he is considering a run for the open Senate seat in the 2014 election.

That follows the announcement made by Sen. Mike Johanns that he will not be running for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

Heineman says it's too early to decide one way or the other, but he his considering it. He went on to say a senate seat was not on his mind until he received word that Johanns wouldn't seek re–election.

If he does not run for the open seat, Heineman will be leaving office in 2015 because of term limits.

He says he isn't sure if he wants to start another statewide campaign and he also has not yet discussed the idea with his wife, Sally.
